Preteens potent with potentiality

Between the ages of 10 and 15 years old kids undergo tremendous transition. They're not children anymore.

"It's a very brief period of time that is so potent with potentiality and also, at the same, can set one on a misguided course." says Melissa Smith-Venters, a Baha'i youth program developer from South Carolina, in the US Baha'i Newsreel video focusing a "Spotlight on Youth."

The following segments from the Baha'i Newsreel describe the Baha'i approach to cultivating the talents and spiritual qualities of teens and showcases teen service projects in Chicago and North Carolina.

Yes there is a need ... and

Yes there is a need ... and we HAVE to be there for OUR children ... without predigest, without criticism, harsh words and rude behavior ... WITH love, WITH understanding, WITH positive direction, WITH support .... Help our children to be the BEST they CAN be ... Undo the wrong others have inflicted upon their innocent spirits. I BELIEVE ... EMPOWER our children in a POSITIVE direction ... Open their eyes and others to a better way.

social studies

i am a mature student, actually very mature.i am 50 yrs old.my course is social studies. our tutor gave us a religion to research,i got Baha'i. this faith (seems to be perfect)interests me more and more.i am catholic but i feel it is not enough any more. too many stories of child abuse, the age old story of class distinction. i believe every child and adult are entitled to education.is there more to this faith, is there a money issue, can anyone really be part of this faith. seems to good to be true.. my friends know of friends that have joined.the faith seems to be the way i have always thought about life. it sounds too idealistic. can life be turned around, are there hidden agendas? would like to know more. on u tube i have heard people slate this faith? but did not go much on these people. very interested.our family values seem to be getting lost in this world. change is fantastic, but, respect is lost along the way of change. we have become individualistic. it is a lonely world (that is my belief). cork. ireland.

It is so wonderful to hear you speak this way!

It is so wonderful to hear you speak this way!I hope your research is going well! I was very moved and touched by your message. I truly understand how you feel. To answer your question about whether there are hidden agendas or paid membership the answer is no and no. :) This religion is really about bringing practical expression to our love for the Cause of the Baha'i faith through positive loving action. If I understood you correctly you are from Cork, Ireland. A wonderful way to become well acquainted with your local baha'i community would be to attend a local study circle and/or devotionals. The other thing I thought that might interest you and be beneficial for your project is a presentation on the Baha'i faith that you could request from the Cork Baha'i community. I took the liberty to get the National Irish Baha'i community's contact information: Free telephone number: 1800 441 919 E-mail: bahainfo@iol.ie Address: National Bahai Centre 24 Burlington Rd. Geraldine I was raised a Catholic and became a Baha'i shortly after encountering the Baha'i Faith. Contributions can only be made by members of the Baha'i Faith and no one has the right to force you. It is a spiritual act. The Baha'i Community is not perfect but we are all working for one goal. Service to Humanity Regards MAry Rose

The Baha'i Faith

Dear Geraldine, I happened to read your questions about the Baha'i Faith and felt compelled to answer. I was raised as a Christian, and although I truly believe in Christ, I felt that there was "more to the story." When I found the Baha'i Faith it truly changed me. It teaches that God has never left us alone, and that all of the world religions are essentially the same. The same spirit is in them all; I think Baha'is are so excited about their faith because they know that any divisions that there appear to be are man-made, and can therefore be overcome with love. We believe that all people are one, and that to search for truth is not only a right, but a responsibility. Personally, the light of Christ that I loved so much as a young person is shining so brightly in the Baha'i Faith that for me I don't feel like I "gave up" being Christian, as much as found the next chapter in a continuing love story. I would urge you to follow your heart--and mind--and look into this beautiful faith. I have been a Baha'i for 15 years and thank God for the hope and empowerment it continues to give me. A wonderful website here in North America is www.bahai.org. God bless.

Best Newsreel Ever

I mean, on par with the Savannah, GA one. This is one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen in my life. I want everyone in the world to see the power of junior youth. I just shared this link with one of my professors. Too amazing for words. BAM!

You know, i wish i had seen

You know, i wish i had seen this video or had the internet when i was a teen. I feel that, due to a variety of factors, i had trouble going from teen to adult. Too many things going at that time. Way too many clouds in my mind. I've been a teen for almost 25 years. What i mean is that i'm some kind of late bloomer due to the fact that it took me a LOT of time to start taking charge of my life. I finally did it of course, but it's always better to realze your path in life as soon as possible.

I think ...

I do not remember having gone through an age more difficult than that. The worst thing is that every year the situation tends to worsen, the globalization that plagues the world makes the incentive to adversely disturb the young are increasingly strong. I hope that projects like this help to change things, every grain of sand is part of the desert ...

Preteens have a lot going on

Preteens have a lot going on their minds like about sex, drugs, and how to stay in a group. Adults, as do teachers and parents need to learn that they are still finding them selves and should help them make more better educated choices rather than not educate them about those necessities at all!

Spiritual development

I haven't heard of the term spiritual development, but it sounds like a good idea having animators to guide junior youths to find their strengths, voices and highest self.

Interesting

I really witnessed that fact this past week when my nephew ran away from home for a day. He is home now, but there is still mending to be done to his self confidence!
