September 19-21:  Teaching, the Greatest Gift
with Bruce Grover, Jon Weiss, and Terry Weiss

The Northeast and U.S. are alive with the spirit of sharing the teachings of the Baha’i Faith! From living rooms to bustling cities, Baha’is are arising to make this work the “dominating passion” of their lives. As the world situation darkens, Baha’u’llah’s teachings illuminate new ways of being and doing that are changing the world one heart at a time. But, how do we share these teachings effectively? How can we truly serve our communities? How do we nurture Baha’i communities so that we don’t lose the gains we make? What is “direct teaching” and what is “Anna’s presentation”? In this lively, hands-on weekend you will delve into the Baha’i Writings and recent letters from the Baha’i World Center to explore the critical role you can play in this thrilling process. We will collaborate with local clusters and institutions to experience the teaching work first-hand – including attending a short cluster reflection meeting! And, you will leave with a plan of action and the information you need to arise and serve in your community! Join us!

All are encouraged to enroll for the entire weekend. Commuters from the Lower Maine/NH Cluster can take advantage of 50% off of their total commuter fees. Others are encouraged to review the list of regular discounts at the Green Acre website: http://www.greenacre.org/reginfo.aspx#discounts

Bruce Grover is a member of the Regional Baha'i Council of the Northeastern States. Jon Weiss is the Auxiliary Board Member for Protection for Maine, NH, and VT. Terry Weiss is the Area Teaching Committee Secretary for the Lower Maine/NH Cluster.

September 26-28:   College Student Weekend
with Barbara Yazdi Markert, Leili Towfigh, Samir Ashraf and Vesal Dini

"Your mission is unspeakably glorious...." A weekend to connect college youth to their spiritual heritage and mission in life, while they also strive for academic excellence. We will study together about teaching and the cluster activities of the Five Year Plan. We will benefit from the examples of those early believers who courageously dedicated themselves to the service and teaching of our beloved Cause. We will learn and grow with artistic presentations, with a panel of active students, with breakout groups, and through inspirational and entertaining presentations. Uplifting and enriching devotionals will inspire our time together. Bring your music! Recommended ages from 18-25.
". . . It is my hope that you may become successful in this high calling so that like brilliant lamps you may cast light upon the world of humanity and quicken and stir the body of existence like unto a spirit of life. This is eternal glory. This is everlasting felicity. This is immortal life. This is heavenly attainment." ’Abdu’l-Baha

Barbara Yazdi Markert serves on the Regional Baha'i Council of the Northeastern States. Leili Towfigh is a graduate of Bryn Mawr and Harvard who has served at the Baha'i World Center. Samir Ashraf is a graduate of NYU and recently returned from serving at the Baha'i Temple in India. Vesal Dini has a degree in engineering and served at FUNDAEC in Columbia, South America.

October 17-19: Empowering the Human Spirit

with Ron Matthews & Martha Elliot

`Abdu’l-Bahá says "The Reality of Man is his thought... If a man’s thought is constantly aspiring towards heavenly subjects then does he become saintly; if... his thought does not soar... he grows more and more material...." Since our thought is our reality, it follows that we create what we think about. In the Five Year Plan we are being called to greater levels of service than at any other time in recent history. How many times do we find ourselves having the desire to teach but lacking the confidence to take that first critical step? Imagine being able to step forward and confidently deliver the Message of Bahá’u’lláh in any situation. Through numerous references to the Sacred Scriptures and interactive exercises, we will learn methods for taking control of our thoughts and emotions and turning them into coherent action. (Includes Classes for ages 3 – 14)

Martha Elliott currently resides in Brockton, MA with husband, Burnis and son Mtalika. Her professional field is web development. In her Baha'i community she serves as the growth analyst for the Bristol/Plymouth Cluster. While working as web master for the NSA, she was a member and choir director of three One Human Family choirs. She has always been interested in the power of the human spirit and has spent many years studying the power of thought and the law of attraction.

Ron Matthews and his wife, Diane Burke, are active members of the Marlborough Massachusetts Baha'i Community. After spending the first 30 years of his adult life as an electrical engineer and ardent martial arts student, Ron has become an Energy Medicine Practitioner with certifications in the Eden method and the Emotional Freedom Technique. In addition, Ron is a certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. This unique combination of skills has lead Ron to a personal realization of Abdu'l-Baha's assertion that "The Reality of Man is his thought, not his material body."

Frequently Asked Questions

about Registration

1. "I thought I registered online, but then I heard I was on a waiting list! What happened?"

When you are online, you are only filling out the registration form. When we receive the form, we complete registrations based on space available and any special requests you have made. Your card is not charged until we know we have a space for you. You will know that you are registered when you receive a confirmation via email or postal mail.

2. "How do waiting lists work? I think my friend registered after me, but got in before me!"

When you register, your registration is dated and timed. People are housed in order of date of registration, but if they are giving service at Green Acre, for example by being children's class teachers, they receive priority for housing. Once the housing is filled, a waiting list is started, based on the date/time of registration. (There are additional waiting lists for specific housing requests, and in some cases for meals, when that capacity has been filled.) If there is an opening, you are generally emailed and/or phoned and give a specific time by which you must respond if you would like to take the opening. We have no way of knowing how quickly the waiting list will move.

3. "Can I get my deposit back? Can my deposit be transferred to another course or person?"

It is a policy of all the schools that part of a deposit is nonrefundable: $10pp is retained if the cancellation is made 15 or more days before the course; full deposit is retained if it is less than 15 days. (Badasht Academy in the summer has a special deposit which is larger and is totally non-refundable.) If you are recieving a partial refund of your deposit, it will be refunded to your credit card, or a check will be mailed to you. It would become very complicated if we allowed deposits to be transferred among courses and individuals. In order to keep the registration work manageable, the policy was established that deposits are not transferable.

4. "What discounts am I eligible for?"
