What do devotions consist of at the Baha’i House of Worship?

Devotions are brief programs of prayers and holy texts from the Baha’i Faith and the world’s other great religions. They are read, chanted or sung at the lectern in the auditorium without sermons or comments.

When do devotions take place?
Devotions are held daily at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium. On Sundays, the devotional program is often structured around a theme and may be accompanied by the Baha’i House of Worship Choir.

Can I participate in devotions at the Baha’i House of Worship?
The Baha’i House of Worship is open to all for individual prayer and meditation, and to attend devotional programs. Those who would like to read or select prayers are requested to contact our office at 847-853-2300 or how@usbnc.org

General questions
Is everyone allowed into the Auditorium?
Yes. Because this space is dedicated to prayer and meditation, please enter the auditorium quietly and follow posted signs or instructions. No cameras are permitted.

Is there an admission fee to the House of Worship?
No. The Baha’i House of Worship is a gift to humanity from the Baha’i community. Donations are neither sought nor accepted.

Are visitors allowed to sit in the gardens?
Yes. The gardens were designed to be an extension of the auditorium where people can pray and meditate. Please do not walk barefoot on the grass or go into the fountains. Please supervise your children.

Am I allowed to take photographs and video recordings at the Baha’i House of Worship?
Photographing and video recordings are not permitted in the auditorium, as this is a space intended for worship only. You are welcome, however, to take photographs and videos outside the building and in the Visitors Center downstairs.

Programs
What programs are held at the Baha’i House of Worship?

In addition to the devotional programs held daily at 12:30 p.m., Baha’i Holy Day commemorations, memorial services and other special events are held at the temple.

Only holy scripture from the world’s major religions may be used in programs in the auditorium. There are no speeches, sermons or commentary. Special events are also held downstairs in Foundation Hall.

You can find out about becoming a member of the Baha’i Faith by attending an introductory talk offered every Sunday from 1:00pm – 2:00pm in the Visitor Center at the House of Worship, calling 1-800-22UNITE or submitting a Request Information Form.

Where should I park at the House of Worship?
Due to construction and renovation work, the main Baha’i House of Worship Visitors Parking Lot will be closed until further notice. Read about parking options and accessibility.

Are there restaurants nearby?
There are several restaurants three blocks west of the House of Worship near 4th Street and Linden Avenue. Some accept cash only. There are also a variety of restaurants about five minutes west of the House of Worship in downtown Wilmette and about 10 minutes south in downtown Evanston. Are there parks or recreational activities nearby?
Gillson Park and Beach is one block north on Sheridan Road. There is an entry fee to the beach during the summer season.
